Following the Philadelphia Eagles’ resounding 40-22 victory against the Kansas City Chiefs at Super Bowl LIX, the NFL is now firmly entrenched in its annual hiatus. The offseason can be a dismal time for football fans, and September feels a million miles away. But rather than seeing if either basketball, ice hockey, or soccer is for you, there is still plenty to be excited about on the gridiron this summer.
The upcoming NFL draft promises to be an exhilarating affair, as it is every year. With just two standout quarterbacks, there’s a real opportunity for some lesser-known stars to make a name for themselves, securing a higher selection than they might have in other draft classes. Add to that the fact that several superstars are hitting free agency in addition to the trade market, which always provides fireworks, and there is plenty to keep an eye on.
Online betting sites have noticed this and, in a bid to bring maximum excitement to their players, have created some interesting betting markets that will be settled this offseason. So, what is there to look into?
Who Will Be the Number One Overall Draft Pick?
All eyes are already turning to the 2025 NFL Draft, scheduled to bring top talent to Green Bay this April. As things stand, the Tennessee Titans will be first on the board, and they will be weighing up their needs as we speak. There is no question that they require a new franchise quarterback, and both Cam Ward and Shadeur Stevens will be available, two QBs who are levels above the much-maligned Will Levis. However, the Nashville outfit is also in dire need of some more explosiveness in defense… so, what do the football odds say?
Well, the bookies can’t decide which direction Tennessee will head in. The latest football odds in Canada and elsewhere currently make the aforementioned Ward the -140 betting favorite to be selected first. However, he is closely followed by powerhouse EDGE rusher Abdul Carter and dual-threat cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter, both of whom could be opted for. Stevens is then a distant +750 fourth favorite, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see him selected over Ward, considering how number two quarterbacks have outperformed the consensus number one in each of the last two years.
All of that is providing that the Titans remain at the top of the board. They may feel like they can secure someone like Kirk Cousins in the trade market and instead trade away their first overall pick. If they do, who that pick goes to will also impact who is selected first, with teams such as the Giants and the Jets both in dire need of the quarterback, while the Patriots are desperate for someone of Carter and Hunter’s ilk.
Where Will Tee Higgins Play in 2025?
Much of the talk throughout the 2025 offseason is likely to be dominated by wide receiver Tee Higgins. With the Cincinnati Bengals already loaded on offensive talent (hello, Ja’Marr Chase), it’s only natural to wonder whether the former Clemson Tiger might cash in elsewhere. Throughout the latter half of last season, Cincy’s superstar quarterback Joe Burrow reinforced just how important it is that his wideout remains at Paycor Stadium, simply saying after the crucial penultimate weekend win against the Denver Broncos that his front office can’t let Higgins “get out of the building.”
Recent chatter suggests that the Bengals owners agree with that assessment, and the bookies have responded. They have priced Higgins remaining in Ohio at -500, meaning that it would be a huge shocker to see him walk elsewhere. But the Bengals front office isn’t renowned for putting their hands in their pockets, and that could see Big Tee head elsewhere.
If Higgins does leave, then the Denver Broncos are currently the favorites to secure his services, something that would doubly hurt considering it was they who claimed the seventh and final playoff spot last season at the Bengals’ expense. Lining up with Jayden Daniels in Washington is also an exciting option, especially considering the Commanders reached the NFC Championship game last season. Finally, the Pittsburgh Steelers are a contender to secure his signature, a move that would break Cincinnati’s hearts, considering the rivalry between the two teams.
Who Will Buy a Minority Share in the Giants?
This is an odd one, but it’s a market that Canadian betting behemoth Bodog is currently offering. Who will buy a minority share in the Giants? It seems that offseason drama isn’t just limited to actual football moves—it also spills over into business dealings. The four-time Super Bowl champions remain one of the NFL’s blueblood franchises, and their recent poor performances haven’t tanked their market value too much at present.
Undefeated boxing champion Floyd Mayweather and the CGI Merchant Group are a contender to acquire a minority stake, with the bookies making that consortium a -140 bet. Eli Manning – the man who led the Giants to two Lombardis in four years in 2008 and 2012 – and the Brand Velocity Group are also a contender, with the same bookmakers pricing them at +175. Outside of that, there are a plethora of companies all given a chance at purchasing a stake in one of the league’s most storied teams.
